Ok, one last thing.. but this is really it for now...

Last thought in regards to the post below. Wayne: "we have to identify spin and just take it with a grain of salt."

Wayne, you couldn't identify spin if someone stuffed you head-first into a washing machine.

Friday's (oops Thursday's) Quick Hit... (puff, puff, hack!)

in re:Wayne's comments re:Spin v. Civility

FYI Wayne,

My 'assumptions' about Evangelicals are borne from experience, not guesswork. One of many examples is my Uncle Doug, he is a devout Born-again/Evangelical and I have spent a great deal of time with him and his family over the last three and a half decades. Other examples include former classmates/friends and their parents. My understanding of the Evangelical 'movement' is based entirely on my association with these various individuals and my own personal study of various religions/beliefs (and I have studied religion since I learned how to read 30+ years ago). [of course, my views are decidedly cynical, but I have had a decidedly cynical view of religion since I was six years old so that should really come as no surprise]

[Small tangent here: I think the end of the movie Dogma offered a simple idea that could pull us all back from the brink of insanity - that instead of clinging to BELIEFS, maybe we could start generating some IDEAS instead. A Belief is a very dangerous thing. Especially a belief that is chosen on the basis of incomplete information. Simply believing something doesn't make it true, and yet, people will fight and die in defense of their "belief". How many wars have been fought over "belief"? The short answer is "most of them". Hell man, the war in Iraq is a war that was started on the basis of which intelligence sources the Administration chose to believe. A Fact is tangible to all and unsusceptable to skepticism, a Belief is only tangible to the Believer and is therefore left vulnerable to broad skepticism.]

Anyway, I find it laughable that you should decry my 'assumptions' in our conversations after making one assumption after another about my 'beliefs' on the pages of this blog.

That is all...

have a great weekend kids!

Quick Hit...

Wayne,

You may remember that in my response to your essay on name-calling I wrote of conservatives saying 'democrats want the terrorists to win.' Will over at Attytood has an excellent post about Howard Kaloogian, who is running to replace the disgraced "Duke" Cunningham in a special election in CA. Aside from the basic dishonesty of Kaloogians little picture game, the thing that really stands out is this line: "...each day the news media finds any violence occurring in the country and screams and shouts about it - in part because many journalists are opposed to the U.S. effort to fight terrorism." [emphasis added]
Now, as we all know, the words "democrat", "liberal", "professor", "communist" and "journalist" are interchangeable in Conservo-Speak v. 6.0(tm). That being said I kinda think this reinforces my original claim. Not dead on the mark mind you, but considering that you fellas have a penchant for birdshot, I'd say it's close enough to register as a hit.

re: Nickel for your thoughts

Can you please try to come up with a topic that you didn't swipe directly from Limbaugh? I heard the broadcast also, Wayne. No one here is going to argue that socialism or communism is better than capitalism (to the best of my knowledge). This has got to be one of the most pathetic, glaring, naked cases of commie-baiting to come off your keyboard yet. Idiot. Yes, Wayne, I called you an idiot.

Quick Hit...

You know what's funny about this whole 'Libs shouldn't compare Bush to Hitler or Conservatives to Nazis' debate?

A Republican whining for Political Correctness.
Hee Hee Hee

Quote of the Day...

...in other words, he just gave a promotion to the guy who was in charge of our nine trillion dollar debt. You know what? I really think if you walked into a cabinet meeting and started hurling your feces at the wall, Bush would name a state after you.

Jon Stewart Rocks.

Ok, Here we go...

First of all I don't need to "make" any case, Wayne. The case has already been made. Your one-sided criticism of only liberal individuals is ignorant of a wealth of identical references by pundits and politicians alike on the 'right' side of the aisle regarding the opposition. As mentioned already, Rush Limbaugh, LOOOOOOVVVVEEEES to use the term 'FemiNazi' on his little radio show (and don't give me any crap about him not using that term anymore, cuz it's bullshit and I will provide proof if challenged). Imagine the unhinged OUTRAGE on the right if a liberal pundit started calling the First Lady... oh, I don't know, how about Eva Bush (in fond memory of Ms. Braun). And yet, it was just fine and dandy when ol' Rushbo continually referred to her predecessor as "Hitlery".

Never Forget, Wayne, that on September 11, 2001, thousands of American lives were snuffed out by terrorists. And yet, for the last four years we have been treated to conservative politician and pundit alike pounding the message that "Democrats want the terrorists to WIN!!" on every call-in show, on every Sunday morning talking head show, in nearly every speech from the VP, and echoed throughout the halls of Congress. Never Forget, indeed.

Does the fact that the right has continually savaged the Democratic party as Nazis, Communists (Never Forget, Wayne that Stalin killed 20 Million people), Terrorist sympathizers, etc., etc., make the statements of a few misguided liberals any less idiotic? Simply, NO. But before you get your panties in a bunch over THEIR statements, take a moment and consider the foolishness spewing from the mouths on your side of the street.

Criminy, man, you whine like this is a new phenomenon! These kind of character assassinations have been going on since the first election campaign when Og narrowly defeated Grok for the right to rule the Swamp in 6 billion BC. "Oh me, Oh my, those bad people said that Bush is like Hitler, Waaa Waaa Waaa, we must throw a big hissy and decry those who would perpetrate such EVIL, NEVER FORGET, Hitler was a bad man, he killed lots of people!!! Dear Leader must NOT be compared to him!!!" Get over it sissy, grow some balls and get in the game.

So... How about it buddy? Got something better to bring to the table? How about a discourse on why torture is a good idea, or how about warrantless wiretapping, or the looting of the treasury, or the war profiteering going on RIGHT FUCKING NOW, or how about that massive deficit that yer kids and mine get to pay off? How about "Mission Accomplished" (that was 2,200 dead soldiers ago, just in case your counting)?

I truly await your next post with baited breath, my friend.

Patience...

...young padawan, patience.

Never Forget is Right!!!

Wayne,

I'll have a proper response for you in a bit, but for now how about a little refresher from The Memory Hole.

Regardless of your opinion of his personal ideology, you've gotta admit - he made politics fun.
